Altdorf Castle
Schloss Altdorf+
Geschichte+
In the center of Altdorf near Ettenheim stands an 18th-century castle. Originally, since the 14th century, the stream through Altdorf divided the village into the feudal territories of the Prince-Bishopric of Strasbourg and the Geroldsecker and their successors. From 1783, the wealthy Strasbourg merchant Johann von Türckheim acquired all feudal shares of Altdorf. He then built the castle of the Barons von Türckheim, which is still inhabited today, between 1784-87 on the site of a moated castle destroyed by the French in 1672. A small park adjoins the castle.
