Altenburg Castle, also known as the 'Schlösschen', is a historic structure in the Swiss city of Brugg. Once a Roman fort, it later served as an early residence for the Habsburgs and now houses a youth hostel.

The origins of Altenburg Castle lie in a Roman fort, built around 370 AD under Emperor Valentinian I. It was part of the Danube-Iller-Rhine Limes and likely protected a transshipment point on the Aare. Between 401 and 406, the Roman structure was abandoned. In the late 10th century, a noble family settled here, commissioning Count Lanzelin to build a small castle using the existing Roman walls. Around 1020, Lanzelin's son Radbot ordered the construction of Habsburg Castle, after which the family adopted the name of this new castle and left Altenburg to loyal followers.
