In the Altengronau district of the municipality of Sinntal in the Main-Kinzig district, Hesse, is Altengronau Castle, a moated castle. It is at the confluence of the Sinn and Gronau rivers.

History+

The origins of Altengronau Castle lie in a feud in 1492, which led to the destruction of the nearby Huttenburg. Eitel Sebastian von Hutten began constructing the moated castle as a new lowland fortress in 1506. In 1527, the structure was placed under the protection of Landgrave Philip the Magnanimous of Hesse. The castle suffered severe damage during the Thirty Years' War.
