Altensteig Castle
The residential tower of the Old Castle is presumably the only undestroyed medieval castle in the Black Forest. The two round towers of the castle are popularly called Heaven and Hell. The master builder of the Altensteig Castle, built in 1604, was Heinrich Schickardt (1558-1635).
The owner of the building is the state of Baden-Württemberg, users are the city of Altensteig and the Altensteig Local History and Heritage Association e.V.
On four of the five floors, information on settlement history and archaeological finds from the Nagold Valley are displayed. The location and size of Altensteig in 1740 are shown in a scale model. In the Knight's Hall, much is exhibited about the rule of Altensteig and the lords of the castle. In addition, various typical professions, such as tanning, shoemaking, saddlery, wagon making, shingle making, and rafting, are presented.
