Altjeßnitz Castle is a partially preserved castle complex in Saxony-Anhalt. Originally conceived as a Baroque castle, the remaining building parts show a history ranging from magnificent beginnings to destructions.

History+

The construction of Altjeßnitz Castle began in 1699 under the aegis of the Barons von Ende. A three-winged complex emerged, its feature being a tower with a square base, rising above the gate entrance and continuing octagonally in its upper section. In 1854, the complex underwent renovation. A fire in 1946, caused by arson, led to the destruction of large parts of the castle. Further demolition work followed in April 1975.
