Altmannsdorf Castle

On the site of the current palace, the Oswaldhof, a manor farm with lands, stood in the 15th century. Erhart Griesser, a Viennese citizen, bequeathed the property in 1444 to the Order of the Discalced Augustinians, who established their administrative seat, the Augustinerhof, there. During the first Ottoman siege of Vienna in 1529, the building was destroyed and only provisionally rebuilt in 1539. After several changes of ownership, the Augustinians reacquired the court in 1652. The second Ottoman siege in 1683 led to further destruction, after which the farmstead was rebuilt with alterations. In 1809, Napoleonic troops used the Augustinerhof as a field hospital. Following the dissolution of the Augustinian Order in 1812, the property passed to the Imperial-Royal Lower Austrian State Property Directorate. Johann Baptist Hoffmann acquired the lordship in 1818 or 1819 and had the court converted into a Biedermeier country house, which was henceforth called Altmannsdorf Palace. From 1856, it belonged to his daughter Anna and her husband Johann von Hoffinger. In 1866, the premises served as accommodation for Saxon troops. Julius Frankl bought the palace in 1899, and his son Robert initiated numerous alterations. After further changes of ownership and a period of decay, the palace was placed under monument protection in 1967. The Renner Institute acquired the property in 1973 and extensively renovated it by 1978. Since 1980, the palace has been connected to the newly built Gartenhotel Altmannsdorf and serves as a venue for seminars and events.

Altmannsdorf Palace is located in Vienna's 12th district, Meidling, in Vienna, Austria, at an elevation of approximately 205 meters above sea level.

Today, Altmannsdorf Palace houses the Renner Institute, an educational institution, as well as a garden hotel. It is an active venue for seminars and discussions.
