Alverdissen Castle, originally a castle complex, is a building erected in the 17th century, located in the Alverdissen district of Barntrup. It now serves as a venue for cultural events under private ownership.

History+

The origins of the site date back to the 14th century, when a castle of the County of Sternberg was mentioned there. In 1405, the castle passed into the possession of the House of Lippe. After its destruction in 1424, the complex was rebuilt by 1450. From 1613, Philipp I, Count of Schaumburg-Lippe, received the castle as a paragium. The foundation stone for the current castle was laid in 1662 by Philipp's son Friedrich Christian. In 1812, Princess Pauline of Lippe acquired the estate.
