Amecke Castle

Haus Amecke is located in the Amecke district of the city of Sundern, a city in the Hochsauerlandkreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The manor house "Haus Amecke" is situated on Lake Sorpe on the road to Allendorf.

Haus Amecke, also known as "Castrum Adenbecke", was first mentioned in 1338. In 1419, the house was divided into an upper and a lower house. The lower house remained in the possession of the Barons von Wrede-Amecke until today. The upper house came into the possession of Johann von Heygen zu Ewig und Amecke around 1530 through marriage, who bequeathed it to his son Heinrich von Heygen zu Amecke in 1571. It was not until 1758 that the von Wrede family was able to buy back the upper house. The manor house was surrounded by a moat until 1830.

In 1923, director Sven Gade filmed parts of the silent film Das Geheimnis vom Brinkschultenhof at Haus Amecke. The star of the film was Henny Porten. Further parts of the film were shot in the vicinity of Amecke and in the old town of Arnsberg. Residents of Amecke and Arnsberg participated in the film as extras. The film was restored by the Film Museum in Babelsberg.
