Amerdingen Castle stands in the Kessel Valley on the outskirts of the municipality of Amerdingen in the Donau-Ries district. This neoclassical castle is a monument in the region from the late 18th century.

History+

The history of Amerdingen dates back to the 13th century, when local nobility resided there. In 1333, the von Scheppach family acquired the knight's estate. After the death of Veit von Scheppach, the property passed to Hans von Stauffenberg. The estate and its associated castle experienced several destructions. The current building was constructed between 1784 and 1788, commissioned by Johann Franz Schenk von Stauffenberg, following designs by the Bamberg master builder Lorenz Finck. The interiors were decorated by the Würzburg stucco artist Materno Bossi.
