Amönau Castle
Amonau Castle is located in the Amonau district of the small town of Wetter in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district of Hesse.
The castle, situated on a flat mountain spur on the northern edge of the village next to the church, was built by the Lords of Hohenfels in the 15th century with a T-shaped residential building. Around 1615/16, Hedwig von Bodenhausen had a garden pavilion, the so-called Lusthäuschen, built at the lower corner of the curtain wall. Further alterations, including to the main wing, took place between 1800 and 1805.
The Hessian painter Otto Ubbelohde used it as a motif for the "Rapunzel Tower", a picture from his illustrations of the Grimm fairy tales. The castle is now privately owned.
