Amsoldingen Castle
Amsoldingen Castle, a structure from the 10th century, stands in the municipality of the same name in the Canton of Bern. It remains in private ownership today.
History+
The origins of Amsoldingen Castle are unclear. It is believed that the Burgundian King Rudolf II once transferred the property to the Amsoldingen collegiate church as a provostry. In 1484, the collegiate church was dissolved and integrated into the Bern Minster collegiate church. In 1496, the Bernese citizen and merchant Bartholomäus May acquired the castle. The castle changed hands multiple times and was owned by Bernese patrician families such as the von Erlach and von Tscharner. One of its residents was Elisabeth de Meuron.
