Annahof Castle, also known as the “Round Building,” is a castle in Niederwürzbach, a district of Blieskastel in Saarland. It was built in the late 18th century as an estate for Countess Marianne von der Leyen and is now part of a baroque ensemble grouped around the Würzbacher Weiher.

History+

In the late 18th century, the Counts of der Leyen had a park with several castles and country houses built around the Niederwürzbacher Weiher, near their residence in Blieskastel. Annahof was constructed around 1788 and served as a retreat for excursions, though it was not intended for longer stays. The complex was destroyed in 1792 during the French Revolution, but Annahof survived the wars. Originally, the estate also included an artificial ruin called “das Altertum” (Antiquity) as well as a “Chinese Tower” and a “Turkish Tent” nearby, which were part of the planned landscape and garden design. Around 1920, Annahof was extended with two square towers on its north side.
