Arenberg Palace, originally known as Bürglstein Palace, is a building in Salzburg, Austria. It is situated on the right bank of the Salzach River, between Arenbergstrasse and Bürglsteinstrasse in the Äußerer Stein district, at the foot of the Bürglstein hill.

History+

The first documented mention of the palace occurred in the 14th century when it was owned by the Lords of Keutzl. In the 16th century, the Lords of Pirglstein and later the Lords of Rehling resided there. Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun acquired the palace in the 17th century, handing it over to the Ursuline nuns as a residence in 1695. However, as the location proved unsuitable, the nuns moved three years later, and the palace subsequently served as a teaching institution for the seminary. In 1791, the landscape gardener Sebastian Rosenegger purchased the estate and transformed the park. His son, Josef Rosenegger, discovered a Roman cemetery during excavation work in 1792. After a fire in 1814, the palace was rebuilt in the Biedermeier style.
