In the 11th century, Arnfels belonged to the Counts of Sponheim. The tower standing here was managed by one of their vassals. After the death of Count Bernhard of Sponheim, Arnfels passed to the regional prince in 1147. However, it was soon granted to the Lords of Mureck.
