On the southern edge of the municipality of Aschach an der Donau in Upper Austria lies Aschach Castle, a historical building and cultural venue.

History+

The history of Aschach Castle is closely linked to the dominion of Stauf. After the extinction of the Schaunberger family in 1559, the lands and the toll in Aschach fell to Wolfgang von Liechtenstein, with inheritance disputes lasting until 1572. As Stauf Castle was already uninhabitable at that time, Wolfgang von Liechtenstein acquired the Neuhof near Aschach in 1570, which was subsequently known as the “Dominion of Stauff zu Aschach.” In 1593, the dominion passed to the Jörger family, who began the expansion of Aschach Castle in 1606.
