The castle was built in 1591 and destroyed by the Swedes in 1632 during the Thirty Years' War. In the following decades, Johann Georg Bauer of Heidenkam, a councilor from Landshut, had it rebuilt. In 1756, the castle came into the possession of the Counts Preysing-Hohenaschau.
