Atzenbrugg Castle

The origins of a lordship in the Atzenbrugg region date back to the early 12th century, with the place name referring to an owner named Azzo. A woman named Gertrud von Azzenpruck is mentioned around 1190, and a coat of arms of the Lords of Azenbruck has been documented since 1313. The architectural development of the castle can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when it was still surrounded by a moated ditch. From 1379, the property belonged to Klosterneuburg Abbey. An existing chapel was extended in 1398 and consecrated to Saint Catherine.
