In Au in the Hallertau, Bavaria, stands Schloss Au, a rectangular complex with corner towers. It houses a castle brewery that remains active to this day.

History+

The first mention of the site dates back to around the year 1000. The Counts of Moosburg were the first known lords until 1281. The original castle was completely destroyed by fire during the Landshut War of Succession between 1503 and 1505. The reconstruction, which gave the current building its dimensions, took place from 1544 to 1578. The castle chapel of St. Karl Bartholomäus, originally built in 1690, underwent a redesign in 1868. The design of the castle garden dates from the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 1846, the castle has been owned by the Barons Beck von Peccoz, who had it renovated in the Neo-Renaissance style in 1880 by the Munich architect Schoch.
