Auhof Castle

Auhof was first documented in 1350. Initially used as a farm or manor, it evolved into an aristocratic seat between 1350 and 1386. Over the centuries, ownership changed frequently, including the Walch and Schallenberg families. From 1689 to 1961, the castle was owned by the Starhembergs, a prominent noble family. During the Napoleonic Wars in 1809, the castle sustained damage. After World War II, it served as accommodation for Russian occupation troops, resulting in further damage. In 1961, the City of Linz acquired the property and made it available to the newly founded Johannes Kepler University. Since 2012, the early Baroque building has been a protected monument.

Auhof Castle is situated in the statistical district of Katzbach in Linz-St. Magdalena, Upper Austria, Austria, at an elevation of approximately 272 m above sea level.

Today, Auhof Castle serves as the administrative building for Johannes Kepler University Linz. It is owned by the Republic of Austria and houses the university administration. The building is partially preserved and is a protected monument.
