In Aulendorf, Baden-Württemberg, stands Aulendorf Castle, a building of stylistic diversity. Its over 800-year history is reflected in a blend of architectural epochs, ranging from medieval origins to Baroque and early Classicist transformations.

History+

The origins of Aulendorf Castle date back to the 12th century, when the first parts of a castle complex were built. In the 16th century, the complex developed into a fortified castle. After the Thirty Years' War, in the 18th century, a transformation into a Baroque residence took place, taking French castle architecture as its model. In the late 18th century, the main building received its early Classicist facade by Pierre Michel d'Ixnard, which remains distinctive today.
