Babenwohl Castle

The Counts of Montfort-Bregenz erected Schloss Babenwohl in the second half of the 14th century. In the 16th century, the Lords of Villenbach expanded the complex. From 1591, the castle belonged to the Abbey of Weißenau near Ravensburg, followed by Mehrerau Monastery, which owned it from 1602 to 1807. In 1854, Baron Ernest von Pöllnitz acquired the property. He commissioned a renovation and had a stair tower added by master builder Gabriel Mallaun. Later, the castle was inhabited by the Pöllnitz and Douglass families.
