Babstadt Castle

The castle in Babstadt, a district of Bad Rappenau in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg, was built around 1900 in place of a previous building, making it one of the youngest castles in the district.

The previous building was erected in 1712 by Adolf von Kimming, who owned the town at that time. From 1898 to 1911, the current castle was built by the Lords of Gemmingen, who had acquired ownership of the town in 1732, according to plans by the Stuttgart architect Carl Weigle, while retaining the Baroque portal of the predecessor building.

The castle, built on a rectangular floor plan with a sprawling staircase, corner turrets, and volute gables, was constructed in the late Historicism style and incorporates stylistic elements of the Renaissance, Baroque, and late Gothic. To the west, there is an adjoining farmyard, and to the south, a large landscaped park extends, surrounded by a wall fortified with battlements and loopholes.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the castle housed a gallery, before the building was extensively renovated and has since served again as the residence of the heirs of the builders.
