In the heart of Thuringia, nestled in the gentle landscape of the Sömmerda district, lies Bachra Castle. This historic estate, once a witness to changing times, now presents itself as a privately used gem that reflects the history of the place in a special way.

The origins of the village of Bachra date back a long way, with its first documented mention before 1157. In the 13th century, specifically 1260, a Cistercian nunnery was founded here. The late Middle Ages were characterized by frequent changes in noble ownership. In 1505, Hans von Werthern acquired the village, and from 1607, the property remained with the Werthern/Wiehe line. After a devastating fire in 1834, which destroyed large parts of the village, the current castle was rebuilt by the Werthern family between 1864 and 1865.
