Badenburg Palace in Munich is distinguished by its function: it was the first building in Europe designed for bathing pleasure. It is located at the southeastern end of the Great Lake in Nymphenburg Palace Park.

History+

Badenburg Palace was constructed between 1718 and 1722 under the direction of Joseph Effner. It served as a bathing retreat, thus pioneering European architectural history. A restoration in 1983 and 1984 reinstated the original wooden shingle roof and the ocher-yellow facade color. On this occasion, a ceiling fresco by Jacopo Amigoni, destroyed in 1944, was replaced by a copy by Karl Manninger.
