Bäckaskog Castle

The origins of Bäckaskog date back to the 13th century, when the complex was built as a monastery. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved in 1537. Subsequently, Bäckaskog passed through various noble families, including the Ulfstand, Brahe, Bille, Parsberg, and Ramel families, who served as feudal lords. In 1684, the estate was confiscated by King Charles XI for the Swedish Crown and thereafter served as a residence for the commander of the Scanian Cavalry Regiment, although it was often leased out. Alterations were carried out by, among others, Field Marshal Johan Christopher Toll.
