History+

The Bärenklau manor was first documented in 1295. After changes of ownership, involving 37 families between 1517 and 1917, the governmental councilor Hugo Hardy acquired the estate. In 1922, Hardy gifted the property to his underage daughter, who sold it in May 1926 for 45,000 Reichsmark to the cloth manufacturer Ernst C. Lehmann from Guben. Between 1928 and 1930, Lehmann had the current castle built as his country residence, with Alfred Breslauer and Paul Salinger as the architects. Following Lehmann's death in World War II and his son's flight in 1945, the family was dispossessed. During the GDR era, the castle served various purposes, including a trade union school and a convalescent home.
