Schloss Baumgarten, located in Ollersbach, a district of the municipality of Neulengbach, is a historic building in Lower Austria. It represents the many country castles in the region that, while not hosting spectacular historical events, nonetheless boast a long and eventful history.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1074, when the then Baumgarten Castle was first documented as belonging to the high nobility of Ollersbach. Later, the ministeriales of Totzenbach took over the complex and subsequently called themselves “zu Baumgarten”. In 1565, the castle passed to the Counts Trauttmansdorff, who transformed it into a palace. During the Second Turkish Siege in 1683, the only lightly fortified palace suffered damage from Turkish raiders but was subsequently rebuilt. The formerly three-story south wing was reduced to two stories, while the previously single-story remaining three wings were raised to two stories.
