Bayerhofen Castle
Near the town of Wolfsberg in Carinthia stands Bayerhofen Castle. This square, four-winged edifice has an inner courtyard with open arcades and a history dating back to the 13th century.
History+
The first documented mention of the castle dates to 1239, naming a Chunrad der Payer as its initial owner. The Payer family retained the estate until 1539. During the Reformation, Bayerhofen Castle evolved into a center for Martin Luther's teachings. The castle acquired its current architectural form in the 16th century. In 1807, it passed into the possession of the Schnerich family, who still own it today. A secco painting on the front of the castle was painted over in mid-2006.

Today, the castle serves as a residential building. The arcaded courtyard is accessible for visitors.
