In the Haffen district of Rees stands Bellinghoven Castle, a moated castle in the district of Kleve. It ranges from its medieval origins to its current use as a nursing home.

History+

Bellinghoven Castle was first mentioned in official documents in the 14th century. Originally conceived as a castle, it served as a fief of the Counts of Kleve. During the Eighty Years' War in 1598, the complex suffered damage from Spanish troops. After the Spanish withdrawal, the most important parts of the building were rebuilt in the style of a castle and redesigned again in the 17th century, giving the structure its present appearance.
