Bellwitz Castle

The first documented mention of the Bellwitz manorial seat dates to 1312 under Lodewicus de Bellenwicz. In 1348, the location was owned by a Hannus von Belewicz. The estate underwent an upgrade in 1572 when the manor was elevated to a knight's estate. In 1730, ownership passed to the von Gersdorf family. The current castle building originated around 1743 as the manor house of the knight's estate. The coats of arms of the von Heldreich and von Braun families are visible at the entrance gate, with the latter being the family of origin of the wife of the then knight's estate owner Johann Georg Adolf von Heldreich. A door arch on the north side of the originally baroque building bears the year 1791 and the coats of arms of the noble families von Hartitsch, von Gersdorff, and von Klix.
