Bergheim Castle
Bergheim Castle is a castle with an English garden on the western edge of the old town center in the Edertal district of Bergheim in the North Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg.
The castle was built in 1692 in place of a small medieval castle seat for Count Christian Ludwig von Waldeck. He handed over the castle with the villages of Bergheim, Mehlen, and Königshagen as a paragium to his son from his second marriage, Josias, who founded the comital secondary line Waldeck-Bergheim, which existed until 1938.
From 1785 to 1786, the castle was extended by the Kassel architect Simon Louis du Ry in the early classical style for Count Josias II von Waldeck-Bergheim.
The castle was extensively renovated in 1990, but is currently unused and has been for sale since 2007.
The complex consists of an elongated two-story castle building with central and side risalits and a two-story gatehouse standing at right angles to it.
The complex includes a park of approx. 50,000 m² extending to the Eder with remarkable old trees.
