Near Witzenhausen-Hübenthal in Hesse, Berlepsch Castle stands as a three-winged complex with an inner courtyard and an extensive park. As late Gothic architecture and later Neo-Gothic alterations, it attracts visitors with its uses.

History+

The Berlepsch family settled in the Werra region after the destruction of their original ancestral castle in the 14th century. Between 1368 and 1369, the "nuwe Hus Berleybischhin" was built on the current site for Arnold von Berlepsch. As early as 1369, the complex received a defensive wall. In 1400, the castle was destroyed by Hessian troops but rebuilt. Under Sittich von Berlepsch, who was enfeoffed in 1461, the castle underwent reinforcement with walls, towers, and zwinger. A stair tower with a Renaissance portal was added in 1593.
