In the Hohenlohe district, Berlichingen Castle, originally a moated castle, is a structure closely associated with the Berlichingen family.

History+

The origins of the estate lie in a moated castle, presumably built in the 13th century. This consisted of a three-story stone house with a tower and served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Berlichingen. From 1292, it was a fief of Hohenlohe, and later, from 1347, it belonged to the possessions of Würzburg. It is believed that Götz von Berlichingen was born here around 1480. In the 17th century, it was first mentioned as a castle, indicating a transformation of the complex.
