Bernstadt Castle
Bernstadt Castle stands in the municipality of Bernstadt. Originally built as a country estate for a patrician family from Ulm, it now serves as the seat of the municipal administration and houses a local history museum.
History+
The origins of Bernstadt Castle date back to 1549, when Georg Besserer, a member of a patrician family from Ulm, commissioned its construction as his country residence. After its destruction in 1688, the castle was rebuilt in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. It served various functions, including as a school and kindergarten, and after World War II, it provided accommodation for displaced persons.
Today, Bernstadt Castle serves as the town hall of the municipality and also houses a local history museum. Two restored stucco ceilings dating from between 1720 and 1750 are on display.
