Berteroda Castle is located in the eastern part of Berteroda, a district of Eisenach in Thuringia. It was built on the foundations of older constructions and today is a privately owned property.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1170, when Poppo de Sonneborn transferred the "Bernwarterode" estate to Fulda Abbey. The abbey remained a co-owner until the Napoleonic era. In 1452, the noble family von Harstall from Mihla acquired the Berteroda estate, which became a secondary residence for their Diedorf line.
