Bichlhof Castle

The origins of Bichlhof, once also known as Aichbichl, possibly date back to the early 17th century. Its first documented mention occurred in 1660, when Ferencz Gregoritsch was named as its owner. The estate is said to have fallen to a descendant of the industrialist Maximilian Christoph Viertaler, founder of the Aichelburg noble family, in the first half of the 16th century. After several changes of ownership, Bichlhof became the ancestral seat of the Barons of Aichelburg-Bichelhof, who owned the castle until 1929. Via Otto Kharassnig and Blasius Leiler, the estate came into the possession of the Werner Riekh family from Graz in 1941.

Bichlhof Castle is situated at an elevation of approximately 753 meters above sea level in the hamlet of Bichlhof, which belongs to the municipality of Sankt Stefan im Gailtal in the Hermagor district of Carinthia, Austria.
