In Reinsberg, Saxony, Bieberstein Castle combines medieval origins with the elegance of a modern castle. It is situated on the Bobritzsch river and now serves as a contemporary conference center.

History+

The origins of Bieberstein Castle stretch back to an early documented mention of a nobleman named after the castle in 1218. In the 14th century, the estate was owned by the Lords of Maltitz, later passing to the Bieberstein family. Around 1600, the medieval castle was expanded into a cohesive castle complex, retaining its original keep. In 1666, Gotthelf Friedrich von Schönberg initiated a significant reconstruction, giving the castle its current basic form. Between 1710 and 1720, the grand staircase on the west side and a four-flight staircase were added. After the owners were dispossessed in 1945, the castle served as a youth hostel until 1992. Today, it is privately owned and used as a conference center.
