Biendorf Castle

Biendorf was first mentioned in a document in 974. The estate was first mentioned in 1488. In 1623, the estate and castle changed hands to Sigmund von Hagen. From 1759-84, the castle was rebuilt by Busso von Hagen. In 1759, ownership passed to Prince Carl Georg Leberecht von Anhalt–Köthen (1730-1789), who renovated the castle. As part of a princely settlement in 1918, the castle was leased to Mr. Lampe. In 1919, the castle burned down and was subsequently rebuilt. In 1934, a rural women's school was established in the castle. In 1945, the property was expropriated by the communists. Thereafter, an agricultural college was established in the castle until 1992. Since 2005, the castle has been in the private possession of the Van de Merwe family.
