Bimbach Castle

Bimbach Castle is one of the oldest Baroque castles in Franconia. The last construction phase was completed in 1703 – the stone above the door commemorates this year. For comparison: The Würzburg Residence was only completed around 1780. The castle was the ancestral seat of the once wealthy and influential family, the Imperial Knights Fuchs von Bimbach und Dornheim, and the estate, as a winery, was always one of their most economically important operations.

The castle itself is the third or fourth building on the site. A Gothic arch from what is presumed to be the second building still stands as an extension of the west wing and, with the year 1488, commemorates a Gothic moated castle. The current building is now 300 years old, making it the longest-lasting of all Bimbach castle constructions.

The castle has been preserved in its original condition, both inside and out. Old staircases, old floors, old windows, and the original room layout allow us to feel the charm of Baroque life. This original preservation, by the way, makes Bimbach Castle a special feature – it is therefore under strict monument protection, and the estate itself is under ensemble protection.
