In the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse, Germany, Birstein Castle stands on a narrow ridge. It has been the residence of the Princes of Isenburg-Birstein since the early 16th century. The castle's architecture, grouped around three courtyards, reflects a development from the 12th to the 18th century, with later changes being minor.

History+

The origins of Birstein Castle date back to the 12th century, when a core castle laid the foundation for the later complex. Until the 18th century, the castle was expanded and developed into a castle complex. From 1517, it served as a princely residence. In the 19th century, parts of the fortifications were removed, and a landscape park was created.
