In Nordwalde, Bispinghof Castle is a historic estate that once held a special position under the direct administration of the Bishop of Münster.

History+

Unlike Pröbstinghof, Bispinghof was directly subordinate to the Bishop of Münster, despite the division of estates between the bishop and the cathedral chapter. The Schulze of Bispinghof acted as the bishop's secular representative and exercised official and legal authority, extending beyond the estate's boundaries to other farms in the Nordwalde parish. He served as a peasant judge, deciding legal cases within the manorial court. This judicial function is symbolized in Nordwalde's current municipal coat of arms by three hornbeams and a sword of justice, which is based on the Schulze's coat of arms.
