Bissendorf Castle in Wedemark, Hanover Region, is an ensemble of historic buildings that today serves various purposes. It stands out due to its late medieval origins and the ornamentation of the late Renaissance.

History+

The origins of Bissendorf Castle date back to around 1560, when the residence of the bailiff was built as part of the establishment of the bailiwick. This building, now used as a registry office, was extended with a west wing in 1611. Around 1620 or 1621, the Cavalier's House was added, which today houses the Richard Brandt Museum. Both structures are examples of late Renaissance architecture.
