Blankenhain Castle

The origins of Blankenhain Castle likely date back to the 12th century, with its first documented mention as a moated castle in 1423. After a fire in 1661, which destroyed half of the castle, reconstruction took place until around 1699/1700. The mansard roof with baroque turret domes from 1765 also dates from this period. Parallel to the castle, a fore-castle was built in 1699 as an economic building, which was redesigned several times in the 18th and 19th centuries before being divided into two new farmsteads in 1949. Ownership changed frequently; after noble families, bourgeois families and manufacturers took over the estate. In 1945, the Zacher family, who had owned the estate since 1924, was dispossessed. A planned demolition after World War II was prevented by citizens.
