Blumenstein Castle

Blumenstein Castle is a historic estate in the city of Salzburg, rising behind the Bürglstein. Originally built in the 17th century, it is an example of the development of Salzburg's noble residences.

History+

The construction of Blumenstein Castle took place in 1635 by the Salzburg councilor and merchant Hans Kellenberger. In 1653, the property passed into the possession of Bartlmä Strobl and his wife. A later owner from 1717 was Rudolf Freisauff von Neudegg, a member of a Salzburg trading family. Sigmund Graf Kuenburg acquired the castle from him, having its interior newly furnished in 1741. In 1805, Franz Hugo Graf Salm-Reifferscheidt and his wife Maria Joisefa, née Countess Mac Chaffry of Keanmore, purchased the castle along with the Blumensteinhof. Theodor Favarger became the new owner in 1888.
