Bodenhof Castle, an estate in Carinthia, Austria, is situated in the municipality of Sankt Stefan im Gailtal and remains in private ownership to this day.

History+

The castle's origins date back to the early 16th century when Emperor Maximilian granted Bodenhof as a fief to Christoph Viertaler from Graz in 1501. Viertaler was ennobled as "von Aichelburg" in 1507, and the estate has remained in the possession of this family ever since. A restoration took place in 1644, a historicizing redesign between 1890 and 1910, followed by a general renovation between 1920 and 1930. The north tower was added in 1927. A La Tène period bronze armlet was also discovered in the castle courtyard.

Today, the castle is a two-story building with an attic floor and an irregular layout. The oldest parts of the building date from the early 16th century. Baroque elements can be found in the west portal and windows.
