Böckel Castle (Bieren)

The origins of Böckel Castle date back to 1350, when a moated castle was first mentioned in documents. This original complex, known as Altenböckel, was located northeast of the current site and was initially owned by the knight Alhard Rape von dem Bussche. In the 15th century, Altenböckel passed to the von Hake family. The property was divided, with the other part of the estate, which mainly belonged to the parish of Bünde, falling to the von Quernheim family and later to the von Voss family. It was not until 1689 that the von Voss family succeeded in reuniting the two estates. The current Baroque castle complex was built in 1682.
