Boitzenburg Castle in the Uckermark region is one of the largest castles in the area and served for centuries as the ancestral seat of the von Arnim family. Its architectural transformations reflect its evolution from a medieval fortified building to a stately home.

History+

The origins of Boitzenburg Castle date back to 1276, when a castle at this location was first documented. In 1398, Margrave Wilhelm of Meissen successfully recaptured the complex from the Mecklenburgers. After several changes of ownership, the estate came into the possession of the von Arnim family in 1427 and then permanently from 1528. By the 16th century, the castle was already divided into an upper and a lower house. During the Thirty Years' War, it suffered partial damage but was rebuilt as a Baroque castle around 1740.
