Bokeloh Castle

The origins of Schloss Bokeloh date back to the 13th century, when Bishop Ludolf of Minden had a castle complex built. In 1242, the castle was founded by Bishop Wilhelm I of Minden, and his successor Johann continued its expansion by adding a castle tower. The complex played a strategic role in the territorial structure of the region, especially in relation to the Counts of Roden. In the 15th century, the Counts of Schaumburg established the seat of the Amt Bokeloh here. After the dissolution of the office in 1819, many of the original buildings were demolished, with only the administrative building and an outbuilding remaining. In the 20th century, the remaining castle buildings underwent renovations and extensions.
