Bollerup Castle

The origins of Bollerup date back to the 12th century, when a castle stood here, owned by the Due family. In the 13th century, ownership passed to the Thott family through marriage. The current castle building was constructed in the 14th century. In 1401, Bollerup became the property of the Krognos family of Krapperup. After the extinction of this line in 1573, the castle fell to the Gjöe family. Further changes of ownership followed: in 1624 to the Lycke family, in 1640 to the Rantzau family, and in 1750 to the well-known merchant Niklas Sahlgren from Gothenburg. His son Klas Alströmer sold the castle to Eric Ruuth, who in turn sold it in 1798 to Baron von Platen Achates. In 1844, Tage Sylvan acquired the estate, which he bequeathed in 1876 to agricultural institutes of Kristianstad County, thus laying the foundation for its current use.

Bollerup Castle is located in Bollerup, in the municipality of Tomelilla, in the Skåne region of Sweden. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 52 meters above sea level.

Today, Bollerup Castle serves as a school. The castle is situated on an island and surrounded by moats, which underscores its historical defensive function.
