Bonndorf Castle

On the site of the current castle, there was originally a predecessor building attributed to the Lords of Wolfurt. This building was destroyed by fire. The property changed hands several times, including the families of Falkenstein, von Rechberg, and the Counts of Lupfen. After the extinction of the Lupfen line, complications arose regarding the succession, which eventually led to St. Blasien Abbey acquiring the dominion of Bonndorf. Under Peter von Mörsberg and his son Joachim Christoph, the current castle was built between 1592 and 1595, presumably as a moated castle in the Renaissance style. The high construction costs forced Joachim von Mörsberg to sell it to St. Blasien Abbey in 1612.
